Surgery and Anesthesia
A Safe Process from Start to Finish
When your dog needs anesthesia or surgery with us, preparations begin even before the treatment day itself.
We plan the anesthesia, treatment, and the environment for your dog in advance.
This allows us to arrange a calm and individualized process and limit unnecessary stress and anxiety.
Before Anesthesia
All dogs undergo a preliminary examination before a planned procedure requiring anesthesia. During this, we:
- weigh your dog
- listen to their heart and lungs
- review the planned treatment
- plan sedation, anesthesia, and pain management
- assess how much time needs to be reserved
- agree if other examinations can be advantageously performed at the same time
- provide calming medication for the day of treatment
The preliminary examination costs DKK 385.
"Since the dog is already under anesthesia..."
Can’t you also take a look at that small lump? Trim their nails? Or examine that ear that’s been bothering them?
Often, we can easily combine several things under the same anesthesia – and when it makes sense, we are happy to.
It’s just important that we know in advance so we can reserve the necessary time and have the right equipment ready.
The goal is to get what’s needed done under the same anesthesia rather than having to anesthetize your dog again another day.
Anesthesia Tailored to Your Dog
There isn’t one anesthesia that works best for all dogs.
We plan sedation, anesthesia, and pain management individually based on factors such as your dog’s age, health, temperament, and the treatment to be performed.
In some cases, we also recommend blood tests or other examinations before anesthesia.
Treatment Day Begins at Home
During the preliminary examination, you will receive calming medication to take home, which your dog should have before the visit.
The purpose is not just to make the dog sleepy. By reducing anxiety and fear from home, we can create a calmer starting point for arrival, handling, sedation, and anesthesia.

We love this clinic from the day we took our golden retriever there. Plus Victoire speaks French so it makes it super easier for us sometimes to communicate. Everyone is so sweet with our dog and we feel very safe leaving him every time. Very recommended!

We are SO happy with our lovely Veterinarians here! Our dog absolutely adores everyone and they have always taken the upmost care and given us all the support we’ve needed to ensure our girl feels loved, comfortable, safe and happy. She quite literally starts pulling on her leash to get to the clinic faster when she recognises the area. We are so grateful for the support from Hundeklinikken and are thankful for their wonderful care and kindness. Thank you to this incredible team - you’re always so diligent and helpful with advice, flexibility, patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you next time. 🫶🏽
You Are Present While Your Dog Falls Asleep
When you arrive on the day of treatment, we will be ready to welcome you.
You will stay with your dog while they receive their sedation and until they are completely asleep.
We see you as an important source of comfort for your dog. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense for us to separate you first and then try to create the same comfort in unfamiliar surroundings.
“You are the last familiar thing your dog experiences before falling asleep.”
Once your dog is asleep, we take over.
While Your Dog is Under Anesthesia
During anesthesia, we continuously monitor your dog and track their vital functions with our monitoring equipment.
Anesthesia is never completely risk-free. Therefore, safe anesthesia involves assessing the risk, planning in advance, closely monitoring the dog, and reacting to changes along the way.
At the same time, we ensure relevant pain management before, during, and after the treatment.
And You'll Be There Again When Your Dog Wakes Up
When the treatment is finished, you will return to your dog and be present during their recovery.
The dog may be tired and disoriented when it starts to wake up. Here, we want to give them something familiar: your presence, your voice, and your scent.
“This isn’t an optional extra for us. It’s how we do things.”
No Unnecessary Waiting in a Crate
Your dog is not dropped off early in the morning to then wait in a crate for their turn.
When you arrive, the time is reserved for your dog. After treatment, they wake up with you, and as soon as they are ready, you go home together.
No unnecessary hours of waiting before treatment and no long hospitalization day afterward.
Before You Go Home
Before you take your dog home, we will review the treatment and tell you what to be aware of afterward – including medication, food and drink, activity, wound care, and any follow-up appointments.
We also ensure you know when and how to contact us if you become concerned after returning home.
