New to Hundeklinikken

Veterinarian - Consultation

A first visit with time to get to know each other

When your dog is to be a patient with us, we want to get to know them before we expect anything from them.

That is why new dogs and owners at Hundeklinikken generally start with an initial 45-minute consultation.

This gives us time to get to know both you and your dog and to work together on a good plan for future visits.

The first visit is about getting to know each other

The initial consultation is, as a rule, procedure-free.

This means we don’t start the relationship with your dog by holding them down, giving shots, looking in their ears, or performing an examination they aren’t ready for.

Instead, your dog gets the opportunity to experience the clinic, the room, and us without having to perform immediately.

They can sniff around. Look around. Take treats. Seek you out. Greet us if they want to. Or keep a little distance if that is what they need.

Meanwhile, we get to know them.

We prepare even before you arrive

Before the consultation, you will fill out a questionnaire about your dog.

Here, we ask about things such as:

  • previous experiences with vet visits
  • how your dog feels about being handled
  • what makes them feel insecure
  • what helps when things are difficult

If relevant, we can also request records from your previous veterinarian so we have an overview of your dog’s medical history.

That way, we don’t have to start from scratch when you walk through the door.

We look at both the body and the emotions

At the initial consultation, both a veterinarian and a behavior-certified veterinary technician are present.

The veterinarian can get an overview of your dog’s medical history and any physical issues. At the same time, we observe how your dog reacts to the clinic, to us, and to handling.

Because physical and emotional well-being are connected.

A dog in pain can be harder to handle. And a dog that is very afraid can have difficulty cooperating even for a simple examination.

“That is why we look at the whole dog.”

Together we make a plan

Some dogs walk through the door without a care and quickly decide that Hundeklinikken is an excellent place to be.

Others bring bad experiences with them or quickly become insecure around strangers and handling.

During the first visit, we assess together what your specific dog needs for future visits.

This could be, for example, more time, a specific way of being examined, or calming medication from home. If your dog has greater challenges with vet visits or handling, we can also talk about how we work further with those.

The goal is not for all dogs to be treated the same. The goal is for us to find the way that works best for your dog.

We love this clinic from the day we took our golden retriever there. Plus Victoire speaks French so it makes it super easier for us sometimes to communicate. Everyone is so sweet with our dog and we feel very safe leaving him every time. Very recommended!

We are SO happy with our lovely Veterinarians here! Our dog absolutely adores everyone and they have always taken the upmost care and given us all the support we’ve needed to ensure our girl feels loved, comfortable, safe and happy. She quite literally starts pulling on her leash to get to the clinic faster when she recognises the area. We are so grateful for the support from Hundeklinikken and are thankful for their wonderful care and kindness. Thank you to this incredible team - you’re always so diligent and helpful with advice, flexibility, patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you next time. 🫶🏽

An investment in the many visits to come

It might seem a bit backward to come to the vet for the first time without necessarily having a lot of things done.

To us, it makes perfect sense.

If your dog learns that they are being listened to, and that a visit to us does not automatically mean something unpleasant will happen, we have a much better starting point the next time they actually need our help.

“We don’t just want to succeed with the visit you come for today. We also want to make the next one easier.”

A veterinary clinic just for dogs

Veterinarian - Surgery and Anesthesia

Hundeklinikken is Denmark’s only veterinary clinic that exclusively treats dogs.

This means there are no other animal species at the clinic, and our environment, routines, and way of working are designed with the dog at the center.

Why only dogs?

• Your dog won’t encounter other animal species in the waiting area
• There is no hissing from cats or sounds from other animals
• The surroundings are calm and predictable
• We can focus our professional expertise, routines, and skills on one species—for the benefit of your dog

Hundeklinikken is not just a clinic for dogs that are afraid of the vet. It is a veterinary clinic built for dogs.

An International Clinic

Contact - Hundeklinikken

At Hundeklinikken, we also see many international dog owners. This allows us to offer consultations in several languages.

Veterinarian Victoire Castel is originally from France and speaks fluent:

🇫🇷 French
🇬🇧 English
🇪🇸 Spanish

This makes it possible for many of our international dog owners to speak with the veterinarian in a language they feel comfortable with.

The rest of the team naturally assists our Danish-speaking clients in Danish.

INDEPENDENTLY OWNED – NOT PART OF A VETERINARY CHAIN

Hundeklinikken is privately owned and independent. We are not part of a veterinary chain.

For us, this means the freedom to decide for ourselves how we want to run the clinic, which values should take center stage, and where we want to allocate our resources.

Hundeklinikken is run by the people you meet at the clinic.
