Consultation
Consultation at Hundeklinikken
A veterinary consultation with us lasts 30 minutes and consists of an examination of your dog and a conversation with you about symptoms and medical history.
We focus on the individual dog and adapt the examination to its needs. If your dog is most comfortable on the floor, we examine them there. If they need time to take in the room, we provide that as much as possible.
Throughout the consultation, we monitor your dog’s body language and stress levels so we can adjust our approach as we go.
If Plan A doesn't work, we find Plan B
We respect your dog’s boundaries.
If your dog becomes uneasy or tries to withdraw, we stop and assess how we can make the situation easier—rather than just holding on tighter and pushing through.
Sometimes this means a different examination method. Other times, it means more time, a break, or a completely new plan.
For us, a good consultation isn’t just about a successful treatment today. We also want to protect your dog’s trust so the next visit isn’t more difficult.
When fear gets in the way
For some dogs, the fear is so great that treats, time, and a calm approach aren’t enough.
In these cases, anti-anxiety medication can be an important part of the treatment. The goal isn’t to make the dog lethargic so we can do more, but to reduce the fear to a level where the dog can better handle the situation and have new, positive experiences.
If your dog has already developed a fear of the vet, we can also help with targeted training and handling.
You are your dog's ambassador
You know your dog better than anyone else.
That’s why we listen to your experiences and observations. You know what works at home, what your dog reacts to, and which small signals matter.
Combined with what we observe during the consultation, this gives us the best foundation for making decisions about your dog’s treatment.
What can a consultation involve?
A consultation doesn’t only have to be about illness. You can book an appointment for things like:
- examination for illness or symptoms
- wellness checks
- follow-up on previous treatment
- minor procedures and sampling
- behavioral or handling issues
Some consultations and treatments are also handled by our veterinary nurses.
Is it your first visit?
New dogs and owners generally start with an initial 45-minute consultation.
Here, we set aside extra time to get to know both you and your dog and to create a good plan for future visits.
